With a strong eye for performance and truth on screen, she’s passionate about stories that centre Black and global majority voices. Through Makalla McPherson Studio, she is committed to telling bold, resonant narratives that challenge, empower, and connect.

Tony De Sousa
CO-FOUNDER & COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR
With over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry and as the owner of a successful restaurant, Tony brings a sharp commercial mindset and entrepreneurial spirit to Makalla McPherson Studio. His background in sales, finance, and business operations makes him a vital part of the studio’s strategic engine negotiating deals, managing budgets, and building sustainable partnerships. As Co-Founder and Commercial Director, he ensures the studio operates with clarity, resilience, and long-term vision.

Paula B Stanic
CO-CREATOR & LEAD WRITER
Paula is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter whose work has been staged across the UK and internationally. Her play What’s Lost won the Alfred Fagon Award, with other accolades including finalist nods for the Women’s Prize for Playwriting and the John Whiting Award. She has worked with Soho Theatre, Paines Plough, Prime Theatre, and the BBC Writersroom, and is currently part of the writers’ room at Stockroom. Paula’s writing blends emotional depth with social insight, and her recent work includes Tracks (NYC, 2024) and Dissonance (Young Vic, 2024).

CREATIVE OUTREACH & STUDIO ASSOCIATE
Liyanne brings a decade of experience in casting and talent relations, with a deep-rooted passion for championing underrepresented voices in film and television. With a natural gift for connecting people and a sharp eye for talent, she joins Makalla McPherson Studio to support creative outreach, relationship building, and event development we’re thrilled to have her shaping the next phase of our growth.

Sophia De Sousa
OFFICE ASSISTANT
Sophia is currently studying Music at Canterbury Academy Sixth Form and brings a creative, can-do attitude to the team. A keen musician with a sharp ear and great attention to detail, she supports the studio across day-to-day admin and production tasks from scheduling and event prep to assisting with creative projects. Her passion for the arts and proactive approach make her a valued member of the team.
